Founded by Victorian textile industrialist Malcolm Oudhusen in the late 1800s, the little town of New Wexwood was originally built as a summer getaway for the founder's family and friends. Settled at the base of a mountain range, with access to a large ocean-fed inlet, it became a popular vacation spot for the very wealthy--so popular that no one wanted to leave. New Wexwood became a town in no time.

New Wexwood has pristine waterways and virgin forests. The views are spectacular from every angle. And the townspeople are just as nice. Generally speaking. New Wexwoodians can be a little hard to get to know at first—we have been called “a frosty people” in the past, but that’s all changed! We love being discovered by travelers of all kind!

Legends run rampant in our town, but, of course, they're just stories New Wexwoodians love to tell their children. There may be a Bigfoot or two (and maybe a small family of witches) in the forests. Werewolves could also be sniffing around--although that's never been proven. Bloodthirsty mermaids may or may not abound in the pristine waterways. You might run into a mythical palladin. You might not.
Always a reason
to celebrate

Locals celebrating the always much-anticipated Mermaid Festival.
We have more festivals than you can shake a stick at it--and people have tried! We are proud of our strong art and theater communities, and we have a big souvenir shop in the middle of our Visitors Bureau, where we proudly display the goods of New Wexwood, from artisan wool yarn to freshly made kombucha. We are a proud, tightly-knit community, and we are working on our friendliness.
