It all started when...

Illustrious cotton and paper mill industrialist Malcolm Oudhusen bought the unspoiled acreage where New Wexwood now sits with the intention of creating a summer getaway for his young family. As news of the idyllic encampment in the woods spread, with more and more friends and celebrities asking for invitations for the summer, Oudhusen quickly realized more would be required from his summer getaway, so he created a wonderful little town for his guests and family members. A theater, a post office, sidewalks, and other niceties brought the little almost-town to life. The only thing left to do was name it.

Oudhusen asked his children to help, and help they did. With four girls and three boys, with barely a year between each one, they were eager to think of the perfect name for the town. In a flurry of words, somehow one of the suggestions sounded like "New Wexwood," which amused Oudhusen, and he quickly agreed it was the perfect name.
